I’m Melissa Hartz, 22-year-old cook, writer and fitness enthusiast from the great state of New Jersey.
When I made the decision to eliminate all animal products from my diet in 2010, it was important that the transition would not keep me away from the kitchen. A former meat lover, I was sure that the transition would feel like a sacrifice – something I had to suffer through for the good of the animals and the planet.
As time went on, I discovered that cruelty-free cooking isn’t at all about sacrifice – it’s about exploring and enjoying all the delicious plant-based foods that nature has to offer. Vegan food goes beyond salads and side dishes, becoming comforting, nutritious and satisfying (with an added dose of good karma).
By actively making compassionate choices, we can speak out for the animals, make healthier, happier bodies, and create a brighter future for our planet.
